Temporary Hair Color There are many different types of hair color available today.  The three main categories are temporary, semi permanent and permanent. Temporary hair colors are available in most drugstores in a variety of colors and products.  Some are color rinses that are to be applied weekly to shampooed hair to add color.  There are also colored mousses and gels available for slight color and dramatic effects.  Hair mascara can be used for more dramatic effects as well as spray-on haircolor and color-enhancing shampoos to brighten and eliminate unwanted tones. Temporary hair color is a good choice to neutralize unwanted tones since the pigment molecules in temporary hair color are large and do not penetrate the cuticle layer.  The coating action can be removed by shampooing.  Since temporary hair color only makes a physical change in the hair shaft, you will not need to do a patch test. The primary uses for temporary hair color include restoring faded hair to its natural color, to neutralize the yellowish tinge in white or gray hair, to tone down overlightened hair without creating furthur chemical damage and to temporarily add color to the hair without changing its condition.  If temporary hair color is used on badly damaged or very porous hair, the color can be quickly absorbed into the cortex layer and may produce uneven or patchy results. The results on gray or graying hair will be very subtle.  Hair condition, shine and control are enhanced with the use of temporary hair color There are some disadvantages to using temporary hair color.  The obvious one being that the color will last a short time, even after every shampoo sometimes.  The coating of temporary hair color can be very thin and it may not cover your hair completely and evenly.  The color can rub off on your pillows or collars of your shirts and can even run when you perspire a lot, or are caught in a rain storm.  If you use a dark temporary hair color on light hair, you could stain your natural hair. In short, temporary hair is a great way to get started in the world of hair color.  It allows you to check out colors quickly without damaging your hair. It is not a permanent solution to hair color needs.
